ND, BSc (HONS) KINESIOLOGY 

 

Dr. Julia Christensen received her Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine Diploma after four years of study at the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine (BINM), in New Westminster. She graduated from Simon Fraser University with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and a Certificate in Health and Fitness. She also completed an honours thesis in the Laboratory for Environmental and Exercise Physiology and is a published author in the Journal of Applied Physiology. She did coursework and practicum’s in Cardiac Rehabilitation which is a program that involves both dietary and exercise prescriptions to help reduce risk of cardiovascular disease.

Dr. Christensen is a true advocate for the healing power of the body and strives to identify the root cause for disharmony in order to restore optimum health and balance for each patient. Medicine is a combination of art and science; therefore, Dr. Christensen will carefully listen to each patient’s history, conduct any necessary physical exams and laboratory testing, and together with the patient will determine the next steps for their personal healing journey.

To best address each patient’s individual health and wellness goals, she utilizes a variety of modalities that may include one or a combination of the following:

  • Nutrition and dietary counseling

  • Western botanical medicine

  • Lifestyle counseling

  • Nutraceuticals/ Supplements

  • Acupuncture

  • Homeopathy

  • Physical Medicine (joint mobilizations, soft tissue massage)

  • Intravenous therapy (Myer’s Cocktail, B12 injection)

 

Dr. Christensen’s practice focuses on Women’s Health, Family Medicine, as well as Musculoskeletal Injuries and Sports Medicine. During her clinical internship she had the opportunity to do a rotation at the Family Medicine Clinic in Victoria, BC where she provided free naturopathic care to young low income families. As a former competitive highland dancer, she understands the dedication and commitment that is required to achieve peak performance goals while remaining injury free. She looks forward to providing quality care and the latest in evidence based medicine in these areas.

 

Dr. Christensen is a member in good standing with the College of Naturopathic Physicians of British Columbia (CNPBC) the regulatory college for the profession. Additionally she is a member of the British Columbia Naturopathic Association (BCNA) and the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors (CAND).
